What should I do first when a circuit breaker trips in my home?

First, turn off or unplug devices on that circuit, then move the tripped breaker fully to OFF and back to ON. If it trips again, stop and call a licensed electrician. In Roanoke and Cave Spring, we troubleshoot overloads, short circuits, and faulty GFCI/AFCI devices.

Quick checks:

  • Reset any GFCI outlets on the same circuit.
  • Run high‑wattage appliances one at a time.
  • Look for heat, buzzing, or burning smells; if present, leave the breaker OFF and call us.
